Things you should know

1Cover is subject to standard underwriting guidelines and policy terms. Additional excesses may apply for undisclosed drivers, including for drivers under 25 or with less than 2 years’ driving experience.

2We may not cover you for some severe weather events during an embargo period (which is usually when we know a severe weather event is about to occur). We’ll tell you if there’s an embargo when you purchase your policy.

3If you have Comprehensive, we’ll pay the reasonable costs for a hire car after an accident if we agree it was the other driver’s fault and you have their name, address and rego number. If your vehicle has been stolen and we agree to provide cover we’ll pay up to $75 a day for your transport if you have Comprehensive and for up to 21 days or until your car’s found and repaired, or until your claim’s settled (whichever’s first).

4To get a new replacement car with Comprehensive, your car must weigh under 3.5 tonnes, and it must have been a new or demonstrator vehicle when you bought it, and less than 24 months old from the date it was first registered.

5Limit is up to $800 for Comprehensive.

6We don’t cover some personal items like cash, mobile phones or accessories fitted to your vehicle.

7Your tools are covered by Comprehensive if you can show us that you’ve been using your tools to earn income in your current business, and if they’re stolen, that they were locked in your car or a fitted toolbox.

8With Comprehensive, you’re covered for limited hours if you’ve told us you’re using your own personal car for ridesharing and pay any extra premium. Your average hours a week should be equal to or less than what is shown on your Certificate of Insurance (COI) for this use.

9Modifications, options and Accessories are not covered under Personal Items if those items are damaged in an incident we cover, or are stolen from your vehicle.

The information on this page refers to new Driva car insurance policies commencing from 21 December 2022.

Logging in to your account gives you access to a range of services. By logging in you can update your contact details, change your payment method and view your policy documents.

You can log in your account here.

  • What’s the difference between agreed value and market value?

Market value means the value of your car just before an incident (like if your car’s stolen or damaged in a fire). It’s the maximum amount we’ll pay when you make a claim.

We work out the market value when you make a claim. We use things like local market prices, your car’s age, its condition, and any modifications or accessories.

This is different to agreed value, which is where you choose the amount to insure your car for (from a range we give you).

For ‘Third Party, Fire and Theft’ cover we will only insure you for the agreed value or market value of your car up to $10,000.

  • Are my car’s modifications and accessories included?

Yes, your car’s mods and accessories (like alloy wheels, spoilers and tow bars) are automatically covered.

If you have Third Party Fire & Theft Insurance and you make a claim, we include your accessories and modifications in the market value of your car (up to a maximum of $10,000).

  • If a learner driver uses my car, do I need to list them on my policy?

You don’t need to list them on your policy unless they’re the registered owner of the car.

So, for example, if you own your car and your son or daughter is learning to drive, we’ll cover them even if they’re not listed. However, for any driver not listed on your policy an undisclosed driver excess may apply.

  • Who repairs my car if I make a claim?

If your car’s damaged by fire or by someone trying to break into it, we’ll arrange for one of our CGU Partner Repairers to fix it.

We have CGU Partner Repairers across Australia, and we back the workmanship of their repairs with a lifetime guarantee.
