There are many routes around Australia that feel like they are made just for motorcycles. Here, we list some the top routes in your state.
The Great Ocean Road, VIC
The Great Ocean Road is known far and wide for its breathtaking views and long coastal drive. In fact, the 243km road is heritage listed as it was built by returned soldiers and later dedicated to those killed in WWI, making it the world’s largest war memorial too.
There are many sights to take in along the Great Ocean Road, from the Twelve Apostles to the Island Archway. The road is very popular with visitors, tourists and Grey Nomads alike, definitely one to try!
West Coast Highway, WA
The West Coast Highway in WA runs a length of approximately 13km through the northern coastal suburbs. It trails the coast as its name suggests, showing off the WA coastline and white sandy beaches. On weekends you can find plenty of Sunday-drivers lapping up the sunshine and beach views. Be sure to stop to watch the sunset over the water.
Atherton Tablelands, QLD
If you’ve already done the usual Port Douglas and Cairns routes, why not track to the hills of the Atherton Tablelands? You won’t be stuck for places to stop, with gourmet food, tropical rainforest, waterfalls, and wildlife to watch at just about every turn.
Oxley Highway, NSW
Trailing from Port Macquarie to Walcha, this stretch of road has a lot to keep riders excited! With twists and turns, and a hilly run over the mountains, you’ll be hungry for more even once you reach the top.
Tasmania
Tasmania boasts mountains and beaches in one stunning location, so whilst we could pick just one road for you to try, you won’t be disappointed whichever road you take. The east coast is particularly popular with motorcyclists, whilst the west coast passes through World Heritage Wilderness sites.
Adelaide Hills, Gorge Road, SA
If you’re after an exciting and challenging ride, Gorge Road is for you. Hilly, sometimes narrow and always beautiful, you can’t go wrong if you’re seeking adventure!
Darwin to Litchfield Park, NT
Following mostly along Stuart Highway, this is a fairly easy route to complete within one day. You’ll enjoy the curves of the road as opposed to the regular straight continuous roads in the outback. Towards Litchfield Park you can stop at Wangi Falls for refreshing and well-earned break.
Don’t forget the weather is very hot and humid in the Northern Territory, so ensure to wear appropriate clothing and stop for water and rest breaks regularly.
