I’ve just bought my first car. What insurance is right for me?

After all the driving lessons, all the tests and practical hours you’ve had to complete, you finally have your license! And very likely you’ve just got your hands on your first car now too

As exciting as this is, it’s just as important to remember the serious side of driving. Your new car will need some insurance before you can get on the roads and drive it. Here we have some information for our young drivers.

What types of insurance do I have to choose from?

Typically, you will have three different types of car insurance to choose from, plus some add-ons.

Comprehensive Car Insurance – This covers you for accidental damage, malicious damage, theft, fire, flood or storm; as well as any damage caused to another person’s vehicle or property. You can also get hire car after an incident as an optional extra.

Third Party Fire and Theft Car Insurance – This covers you if your vehicle is stolen or catches fire. It also covers you if you cause damage or another vehicle or property.

Third Party Property Car Insurance – This is the cheapest form of car insurance and covers you if you prang someone else, causing damage to their vehicle or property.

What is the most affordable for young drivers?

Although you may be a young driver and focused on saving as much money as possible, it’s important to check out each policy and see what will suit you best. If you get into an accident or cause damage to your car and think you wouldn’t be able to afford to pay for repairs outright yourself, then it may be best to get a more Comprehensive Car Insurance policy.

Things to remember for new drivers
